suPARnostic® Compared to Other Biomarkers
suPARnostic® is a truly novel biomarker – not only in the sense of a novel protein used as a marker, but also in the concept of applying the information gained from that measurement: suPARnostic® is a true prognostic marker – without a diagnostic link to any particular disease.Thus it does not merely infer prognostic information from diagnostic information (e.g. presence of bacteria in certain amount), but from measuring the underlying danger to the organism through detection of severity of the immune response and the systemic inflammatory reaction. Measurement of the severity of that underlying status of the organism in a disease highlights the point of imminent risk of fatal outcome. Such information has obviously high value in patient and treatment decisions, e.g. intensity of monitoring required, urgency and choice of treatment allocation etc.
With this unique quality, suPARnostic® is a novel biomarker that shifts the medical focus from recognition of an illness at a more developed stage (i.e. when symptoms and other indications are apparent) to recognition of an illness earlier in its development and subsequent prevention of a more severe manifestation of that illness. At such stage less severe medical intervention may be required and thus less burden on the medical system and the patient is likely. In cases of doubt, a single test can thus be done to indicate which patients should receive extensive diagnostic testing, instead of a minimal range of diagnostic test for “what it could be” done on every suspect case. This also can allow less experienced medical personal to participate competently in suspect screening.
suPARnostic® is proud to be part of an increasing awareness that prognosis and prevention should more and more substitute diagnosis and severe medical intervention.
suPARnostic® cannot be compared directly to any other biomarker to the best of our current knowledge, due to its disease- and pathogen-independent information quality. In concept, CRP might be the closest comparable marker.
