Who We Are
ViroGates is an international Biotech company headquartered in Denmark, north of Copenhagen, in the heart of Medicon Valley.
ViroGates was incorporated in 2001, based on an invention coming from Hvidovre Hospital in Denmark: Inventor and co-founder Jesper Eugen-Olsen discovered the utility of the biomarker suPAR in HIV. Further inventions followed, substantiating suPAR as one of the most promising biomarker tools for various areas of healthcare.
suPAR (short for soluble urokinase Plasminogen Activator Receptor) is found in the blood of every individual and measurement of suPAR can be related to an individual's health status - as a health monitoring tool and as a patient evaluation tool in various critical conditions, including e.g. sepsis and tuberculosis. Elevated blood levels of suPAR can indicate poor patient prognosis or disease outcome, suPAR levels could thus be used to pinpoint critical patients early and monitor treatment response.
ViroGates is developing a product line called suPARnostic® to make suPAR available as a tool in various areas of healthcare. The first product in this line was a blood based test kit that provides a simple, cost-effective and transportable monitoring tool for research and clinic, which has been CE-marked and subsequently was launched in January 2008.
